Hello! I'm Mairi Eyres. I'm a patient, empathetic tutor with a strong academic track-record. I have a first-class BA and MSci in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, specialising in Chemistry.

I've tutored chemistry students at GCSE and A Level, and taught first and second year undergraduates at Cambridge University. The breadth and depth of my chemistry knowledge allows me to approach the A Level course from many different perspectives. I enjoy stretching outstanding students as well as finding ways to make chemistry easier and more engaging for those not yet reaching their full potential.

I believe making students comfortable enough to reveal the gaps in their understanding is a highly important quality in a teacher, and one that I always strive to achieve. In my experience, the best teachers are not only knowledgeable, but also kind.

Why me?

- First-class knowledge of degree-level chemistry

- Friendly and patient

- Experienced A Level tutor

- Chemistry supervisor/teacher at Cambridge University

- A*s in Chemistry, Biology and Physics A Level

- A's in Maths A Level and Further Maths AS

- Fully up-to-date DBS check

If you're applying to study Chemistry or Natural Sciences at university, I also offer help with personal statements and Oxbridge interview practice.

"Mairi is a fantastic tutor, capable and patient throughout our lessons. I am studying an intensive A-level in chemistry, a course that goes at a swift pace, and Mairi has helped me consolidate and practice the topics raised in my college classes. She is always prepared for our lessons, willing to explain the nuances of concepts, and maintains excellent email contact."

Eva, A Level chemistry student

"Mairi tutored me in GCSE maths. I always struggled in this subject due to my dyscalculia. She was always so patient and kind. With her help I managed to progress from failing maths to passing and moving onto a university degree in English. I could not recommend Mairi enough. Thank you Mairi for having more faith in me than my maths teachers! :)"

Kelsey, GCSE maths student

"I was Mairi’s supervisor throughout her undergraduate degree at Cambridge University. She is very friendly, patient, calm and understanding, as well as being efficient and reliable. She has a first-class knowledge of degree level chemistry, and did an excellent job at the recent Cambridge Sutton Trust Summer School in guiding a group of year 12 students through some challenging and unfamiliar concepts of upper sixth and undergraduate level chemistry. I would not hesitate to recommend her."

HOw it works

It all starts with a free 15-minute consultation. You'll tell me what you want to get out of these sessions and I'll tell you more about my approach. We'll discuss things like the topics you're struggling with, your availability and the number of sessions you'll be looking for each week.

Next, we'll book in our first session! All my tutoring is carried out online using password-protected zoom meetings. I use a digital whiteboard and stylus so we can easily work through problems together.

After the session, I'll write a short report summarising what we did. This will help you track your progress so you can see how you're improving. Each week, I'll also set a small piece of homework - nothing too strenuous but the idea is it will help you consolidate what we covered in the session.

All my tutoring sessions are £40/hour. You can either pay weekly or as a block of sessions in advance.

Drop me a message to enquire about availability!
